A Deeper Connection To Creative Flow

What is the source of human creativity? What fuels inspiration? What fires us up so much that an idea gets us out of bed in the middle of the night, or keeps us up all night - pursuing the "it" that is driving us to bring it into form? It's about connecting to that Spark that originates in our connection to flow of the Creative Life Force.
The word "artist" is many times associated with individuals who work with their hands to create. When in fact, we are all artists - artists of life with a myriad of expressions and media of creativity. Sculptors, scientists, painters, poets, comedians, writers, singers, scientists, musicians, photographers. Daydreamers and doctors. All of us.
The connection that creates inspiration and urges its expression resides within us. We all have the ability to tap into this magical flow. This spark of the Cosmic Creator, some know it as God, is the connection of the brilliance of Divine Mind with our own being. It IS us. And WE are It.
In 2001, I began studying an amazing practice known as Reiki. Traditionally shared as a form of spiritual practice and used as a complementary therapy to treat physical, emotional, and mental diseases, I studied it for a vastly different reason – for a non-profit art project I created to commemorate the victims of September 11th. I don't know how I knew about it. Before I created the art project I don't remember hearing of it. I only knew that I NEEDED to study it. I knew I needed this piece to complete the art project. I went through the Master/Teacher level, so that I could imbue this project with more of this connection to the Divine, to make it truly "healing art."
Fast forward to almost 20 years of practice and study and I think I have an inkling of the depth of its wisdom. It's much more than a practice. It is an opening to reconnect more deeply with the innate wisdom of the Divine Universe, that Creative Life Force that flows, permeates and animates us and all things. It becomes us in a way that its brilliance impacts and positively enhances every single part of our lives. Just as the Creative Life Force does, it is, in fact, one and the same. When we understand that we are always connected to this brilliance, this magical inspiration, this creative force, we understand that we disconnect from it. It never leaves us. We leave. When we understand this, we begin to change our experience, as we gain deeper understanding of our relationship with the Divine Force of life.
In Japanese, Reiki means Universal Life Force. Though it has been practiced and taught since the late 1880's, its roots are deep in ancient Mahayana Buddhism and it is thought to be over 2500 years old. The lineage of Usui Reiki is the original form of Reiki from which all others are derived. It was created by Mikao Usui, a Doctor of Buddhist Theology, who developed Reiki after studying ancient Buddhist teachings accredited to Gautama Buddha. Interestingly, from Usui's original manuscript found in 1994, the aim of these teachings was to provide a method for his students to achieve deeper connection with the Universal Life Force energy that would help them in their self-development.

What sets Usui's teachings apart from other "hands-on healing methods" is the passing of powerful energetic attunements that remind students of their connection to the Creative Life Force. It is written on Dr. Usui's headstone that he taught Reiki to over 2000 people during his lifetime. Sixteen of his students continued training to reach what is known as the Master level.
One of his Master Level students, Hawaya Takata, brought the practice to Hawaii in the early 1900's. She made it more acceptable for Westerners by linking its roots to the healing method used by Jesus, rather than its roots in Buddhism. And so the American lineage was born.
Reiki is a practice that will infiltrate and enhance all areas of life, from creativity to emotional and physical well-being to health, mood. Regardless of what we do for a living, it “becomes us” – opens the channels to greater creativity, to be stronger and wiser change-makers at a time when that is so needed.
Many students, particularly mine because of my personal focus and way of sharing it, are artists, musicians, writers, performers, who integrate this in their work. Over time, it becomes a beautiful mosaic of intention. In our busy lives and the turmoil present on Earth right now, this reconnection is really essential and so very helpful in maintaining focus and being “part of the change” that need to take place in our world. The more individuals who learn and practice it, the greater the light quotient that is present on Earth. This means the greater the potential for positive change.
